Two faces of methadone

Methadone is a long lasting synthetic opioid with potent analgesic effect. Its pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties make it valuable in the management of various pains not only chronic, cancer related pain but also in postoperative and neuropathic pain. Methadone is also successfully used in opioid substitution treatment. Clinical evidences show that methadone substitution therapy brings many benefits to participants, especially improving health status and quality of life. Thanks to the unique properties, methadone still has been playing significant role in medicine.
