Obesity treatment

Obesity is a chronic disease, increasing the risk of morbidity and mortality from the other chronic noncommunicable diseases. It is a huge epidemiological problem in the world, also in Poland. Because of the threat posed by this disease to health it definitely requires treatment. The lifestyle change including diet modification and increasing physical activity is it’s treatment basis, also when pharmacotherapy or surgical methods are used. In selected cases, drug therapy may be used, but now only the one medicine (Orlistat) is available. Obesity with a BMI exceeding 35 kg/m2 may be an indication for surgical treatment. This article discusses the various methods of obesity treatment, with special consideration of dietary treatment and increase physical activity.
