β-adrenregic blockers usage in diabetes mellitus

The cardiovascular diseases are still the most common cause of death in Poland. If diabetes co-exists, the worsening of quality of life with the development of coronary artery disease and heart failure is observed. From another point, the development of diabetes in hypertensive patients might increase significantly the risk of myocardial infarction. The agents blocking β-adrenergic receptors (“β-blockers”) are the important therapeutic group with indications for heart failure, coronary artery disease and hypertension. The aim of the present review is to display the evidence for beta-blockers administration in diabetic patients with co-existing cardiovascular diseases.
