The article describes an unintended process called an extravasation i.e. a leakage of a substance from vein into surrounding tissue. This term is particularly associated with the intravenous chemotherapy and can cause very serious consequences to a patient. Additionally the article includes information about risk factors predisposing to the extravasation as well as prevention and general measures that should be taken in the case of extravasation.
