Infections caused by different bacteria species are the most often appearing ocular diseases. Bacterial infections within the eye are limited to an area though untreated may in some conditions become a source of systemic infection. In this paper different ocular infections and various approaches in their treatment have been characterized. Ocular agents are usually applied topically to avoid side effects observed on systemic administration. However, some factors such as intensification of disease, physicochemical properties of agents, barriers interfering with penetration of the drug to the site of its action require systemic or intravenous applications. Keywords: antibacterial drugs, ocular infections, local application, systemic administration
