Compaction and compression mechanism of coated pellets were evaluated and drug release from tablets made of pellets was characterised. The general purpose of this paper was to investigate the effect of the physical properties (shape, surface, porosity and pore structure, etc.) of pellets on their compression behaviour and tablet forming ability. A particular problem occurs if the pellets are coated with a polymer film to yield a controlled release effect, as the tabletting process can cause severe damage to the film, altering the release characteristics from the pellets.
