Properties of biological active compounds from Aronia melanocarpa fruits.Aronia melanocarpa (chokeberry) is a widely distributed plant in Eastern Europe, the Soviet Union, and North America. Its berries are dark red, almost black since skins and pulp are very rich in phenolics and particularly anthocyanins. Aronia fruits are vital source of anthocyanins, which are widely distributed in higher plants. There are four identified derivatives of cyanidin: cyanidin 3-O-galactoside, cyanidin 3-O-arabinoside, cyanidin 3-O-xyloside, cyanidin 3-O-glucoside. The next group of biologically active molecules are flavonoids which are represented by flavonols and flavanons. Moreover aronia fruits are rich in phenoloacids with chlorogenic acid as a representant. The rest of aronia fruits content are: tannins, organic acids, vitamins, carotenoids and elements. Complex content of Aronia melanocarpa fruits determines its extensive pharmacological properties such as antioxidative, chemopreventive, antiphlogistic and positive influence on cardiovasculary system.
