Rules of stationary and mobile phases selection in chromatographic analysis and their use in studies on hydrophobic and hydrophilic vitamins. Due to their versatility and resolution, chromatographic separations of biological complex mixtures are used for many purposes in life sciences. The first part of the work presents the chemical structure and specificity of stationary phases used in different types of liquid chromatography (i.e. adsorption, partition, ion-exchange and gel permeation chromatography). Mechanism of analyte compounds resolution on the surface of these phases and principles of selections of mobile phase depending on the separated compounds properties were described. The second part concentrates around the choice of isolation condition of hydrophobic and hydrophilic vitamins (their isomers and derivatives) from various matrix as well as the description of determination by HPLC. The selection of stationary and mobile phases most often used for this type of analysis has been presented, with reference to their applications.
