Ion-selective electrodes - significance in the analysis of drugs. The principle of potentiometry, especially in the aspect of the use of ion-selective electrodes (ISE), is recollected. Examples of the application of ISE in the analysis of drug in their pure form, as well as in the pharmaceutical preparations, are described. Among groups of drugs, which can be determined basing on the potentiometry with the ISE, there are narcotic, analgesic, sympaticomimetic, mucolytic, antimalaric and other drugs. The analytical techniques, which are used in the drug analysis include direct potentiometry and the potentiometric titration. Modern tendencies in the development of ISE techniques, for example the use of potentiometric sensors in the flow injection analysis of drug substance, are highlighted.
