Natural products in cancer immunotherapy. Immunotherapy is one of the approaches to cancer treatment although its efficacy is still a matter of research. Historically, botanicals have been a mainstay of drug treatments and are also currently receiving attention as potential immunodrugs in oncological conditions. Numerous substances of natural origin are able to modulate the immune system targeting different patchways. This paper reviews the most important immunodrugs used in clinical practice, including mushroom polysaccharides and mistletoe preparations. Examples of immunoactive compounds isolated from traditional medicinal plants which may serve as possible leads for future drug development are also presented.
