Safety of hydrocorisone in selected dermatoses

Modern dermatology is difficult to imagine without using local glucocorticosteroids (mGKS) in the therapeutic process. Hydrocortisone belongs to this group of medicines and is one of the most commonly used steroids. It is widely used in the treatment of various types of skin lesions, such as atopic dermatitis, lichen, erythema, bumps of different origin and psoriasis. It has anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive and anti-proliferative effects. The preparation is available both on prescription (1% unguent) as well as on direct sale (OTC in the form of 0.5% cream or unguent). Like other mGKS preparations, it can have an adverse effect on the body, and the awareness of possible side effects and their effects is the basis for their safe and effective use. This paper reviews the possibilities of safe use of hydrocortisone in the treatment of selected dermatoses.

Keywords: topical glucocorticoids, mGKS, hydrocortisone, mechanism of action, dermatoses, safety of use.
