Problems with use commercial drug products (tablets and capsules) for compounding oral liquid formulations. Compounded oral suspensions should be proposed as as the most appropriate formulation when tablets or capsules are prescribed for small childern. Number of important issues have to be taken into consideration when preparing suspensions from tablets or capsules: solubility and stability of the active substance, composition and pH of the suspending medium, antimicrobial protection, sufficient information on the source medicinal product. The most important aspects of this type of formulations are presented with the aim to encourage pharmacists to consider compounded oral fluids especially when oral powders are prescribed for infants.
