Anti-inflammatory properties of herbal substances - selected issues. This paper presents an overview of phytochemicals that in pharmacological studies have proved to be highly active anti-inflammatory agents. Representatives of the following classess are discussed: phenolics, terpenes, fatty acids, and sterols. Some of the compounds mentioned are responsible for the observed antiphlogistic effects of medicinal plants traditionally used in the treatment of inflammatory conditions. Other may become important leads in the search for new anti-inflammatory therapeutic agents.
