Hypertension in pregnancy – diagnostics and treatment

Hypertension complicated approximately 7–10% of all pregnancies and is one of main causes of either maternal or fethal/neonatal morbidity and mortality. Hypertension in pregnancy is classified in four categories. 1) hypertension existing before pregnancy 2) gestational hypertension – usually after gestational week 20 with or without proteinuria 3) hypertension existing before pregnancy plus superimposed gestational hypertension with proteinuria 4) antenatally unclassifiable hypertension. Research on preventing pregnancy – induced hypertension, preeclampsia and eclampsia has been gaining interest in recent years. The management of pregnant women with hypertension consists nonpharmacologican therapy, usual drug treatment and delivery in optimal time. After delivery hypertensive women require surveillance and hypertension diagnosis is verified.
