Men with symptoms from the lower urinary tract (LUTS) – practical aspects of modern pharmacotherapy
2019-01-31

Treatment of men with lower urinary tract sympoms has been a challenge for urologists for many years. Similar symptoms may be a consequence of a dozen diseases, which in addition often coexist with each other. The quality of life depends on appropriate diagnosis and the choice of appropriate therapy. The preferred treatment method for patients and their doctors is pharmacotherapy. In modern pharmacotherapy, in addition to alpha-1 adrenoceptor antagonists and 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors that have been in use for many years, we use also muscarinic receptor antagonist, beta-3 receptor agonists, phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitors and vasopressin analogs. The purpose of this study is to characterize the above groups of drugs and present practical aspects of pharmacological treament of men wih LUTS.
