2018-04-06

Although the Polish Pharmaceutical Law defines a community pharmacy as an institution of public health protection, pharmacists were not given any instruments to perform this mission. The role of community pharmacy, at the system level of public health, have not been emphasized enough in Polish healthcare policy. The aim of the study was to investigate the opinion of students of pharmacy on role of the pharmacist and community pharmacy in the promotion of public health.
The first step of the study included a quantitative survey. Firstly it was designed the questionnaire which was composed of 13 questions. In nearly half of the cases were used Likert scale. The survey is attached with personal questionnaire. For evaluating were used descriptive statistics. In the research 271 students participated survey. Most of respondents defines „public health” properly, but they assess their own knowledge on intermediate level. Furthermore respondents assess pharmacists’ involvement in public health protection as insufficient.
In the academic curriculum of future pharmacists, greater emphasis should be placed on acquiring competencies necessary for public health protection.
