Poland is on the last place in EU in terms of HIV screening. HIV self-tests, introduced in the pharmacies are among the tests recommended by the Polish AIDS Society (in addition to laboratory tests performed in medical centers or voluntary counselling and testing centers). Such tests can be considered as filling in current diagnostic gaps. This paper presents the history of HIV self-testing, their advantages and disadvantages and the EU member states policy in this area.
