Age-related macular degeneration is one of the eye diseases, which predominantly affects old people and inevitably leads to the severe loss of vision. In the last decade we have observed a huge progress in diagnostic methods, which actually helps us in preventing, making a diagnosis and monitoring of the AMD treatment. Together with the new diagnostic methods new therapies have been also introduced, more effective then previous ones. Nowadays two methods of treatment are proposed to treat two main types of AMD. In atrophic macular degeneration treatment is mainly preventive and includes the high doses of vitamins and mineral diet supplementation. Exudative macular degeneration is now treated by intravitreal injections of anty-angiogenic drugs, but also by photodynamic therapy, surgery and laser photocoagulation. The combine therapy is also used.
