The article defines the independent drug information services and its development in the United States and European Union, giving as examples France and United Kingdom. It describes briefly sources of independent drug information. The authors of the article present also some barriers which are important to take into consideration while creating and developing the network between different institutions responsible to provide the independent drug information as well as the effective and safe system of communication between health professionals and patients.
