Antibacterials in the treatment of eye infections. Antibacterials play important role in both prophylaxis and treatment of eye infections. They are substances of different chemical structure and various modes of action which may kill bacteria or inhibit their growth, exerting respectively bacteriocidal or bacteriostatic properties. Antibacterial antibiotics are products of microorganisms, and may be synthetic or semisynthetic agents. The treatment of ocular infection is aimed at decreasing complication risk, limiting infection spreading, and reducing the disease duration. Antibacterial substances may be applied in ocular infections topically as ocular drops or ointments, or as subconjunctival or intravitreal injections. However, in some cases the only way is the systemic administration. In infections accompanied by additional symptoms, antibacterial substances appear effective in combination with corticosteroids or sympathomimetics. In this paper antiseptic agents complementing a group of antibacterial substances have been also characterized.
Leki przeciwbakteryjne stanowią istotny element farmakoterapii zakażeń narządu wzroku i profilaktyki zabiegów chirurgicznych. Są to substancje o różnej budowie chemicznej i mechanizmie działania, których wspólną cechą jest niszczenie lub zahamowanie rozwoju bakterii będących przyczyną zakażeń narządu wzroku. Celem leczenia zakażeń okulistycznych jest zmniejszenie ryzyka powikłań i możliwości rozprzestrzeniania się istniejącej infekcji, a także w wielu przypadkach, zwłaszcza tych mających tendencję do samowyleczenia, skrócenie czasu trwania choroby.
