Evaluatoion of the patients knowledge about their own disease among patients with diabetes type 2 and hypertension. The patients knowledge about their diseases depends on: the manner of its transfer by the medical staff, cognitive possibilities and patients health behaviour. The aim of the work was to estimate knowledge about their own disease among patients with the diabetes type 2 and arterial hypertension. Level of knowledge was assessed using the disease specific questionnaires, which were fulfilled by 150 patients with the diabetes type 2 and with the hypertension. Patients who had both diseases fulfilled 2 questionnaires. Results showed that patients with one disease have a higher knowledge than patients with both disease. Patients with hypertension had the lowest problems with questions concerning the diet, most of all incorrect answers referred to the matter of the heredity of the hypertension. Diabetics could not qualify the mechanism of the disease, the quite large group could not recognize symptoms of hypoglyceme. Almost all patients with the diabetes monitor the level of glucose in the blood, while among patients with the hypertension only 25% monitor the blood pressure level. Patient-oriented community pharmacist should enlarge the patients knowledge to improve their health behaviour and medication use.
