HIV and AIDS – a new approach to diagnosis and treatment. Part II. Antiretroviral treatment

In the first part of the article, the HIV self-testing was discussed as the potential method to complement existing prevention activities. Their history, advantages and disadvantages and the EU member states policy in regulating its accessibility were described. However, in this area treatment can also be called as kind of prevention, because the patient taking antiretroviral therapy (ART) is less infectious. ART is also used in prophylaxis of occupational or nonoccupational accidental exposure to infection. Hence, this part of article refers to the ART - the history of HIV therapies and health policy in this area
