Zaburzenia czynności ośrodkowego układu nerwowego w następstwie stosowania leków oraz suplementów diety pochodzenia roślinnego
2017-01-05

Central nervous system disorders as a result of the use of herbal medicines and dietary supplements of plant origin

It is observed a growing popularity of natural products of plant origin, which include herbal medicine and dietary supplements. Despite their often good tolerance, we should not forget that they are the cause of the risk adverse effects, including interaction. Based on the scientific literature, the authors of this paper presented the data regarding the prevalence of the central nervous system disorders during their administration. This is an important issue because side effects in the central nervous system may be non-specific and unrelated by the patient with the use of a “safe” herbal product. Optimization of their use requires a properly conducted education of patients by doctors and pharmacists and developing a system of pharmacovigilance.

Keywords: herbal medicine, dietary supplements, central nervous system, drug-related side effects and adverse reactions, drug interactions.
