Ceftobiprole - a new cephalosporin of 5th generation - 'since 2008 in only 3 countries all over the world, namely Canada, Switzerland and Ukraine, the first 5th generation cephalosporin, an antibiotic with a wide range of antimicrobial activity - ceftobiprole medocaril, has been registered. This is one of not so many antibiotics exhibitng activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains (MRSA), even those which are linezolid - and vancomycin - resistant, and against multidrug resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae or Enterococcus spp.This antibiotic is applied with good effects in treatment of difficult skin and skin structure infections and in therapy of infections connected with diabetic foot disease, except bone infections.
